My favourite "Application Launcher" (it is much more by now) has been rewritten from the ground up and saw the public light of day last week: Alfred 2. With version 2 Alfred has turned the former Extensions into Workflows. Don Southard has good coverage on this feature and Alfred 2 in general on MacStories.
Workflows look extremely powerful and I am sure we'll see some really neat stuff being done in the next weeks and months. There is almost a guarantee for it since Brett Terpstra obviously already discovered Alfred's Workflows.
Of course you can find some basic workflows that allow you to enter tasks into OmniFocus using Alfred 2:
- There is this plain and simple one by CapnAverage
- Photographer and OmniFocus geek Aaron Hockley did a nice one which not only allows you to enter tasks via Alfred, but can also collect the currently open page in Safari or Chrome and create a task from them
- If you need a 'File Action' that allows you to add the current file from Alfred to OmniFocus as an attachment to a task xwoker's workflow has you covered
- Finally, if you need more sophistication and a workflow that parses the task entered to detect project, context and date information, you need to pick this workflow
Based on the comments in Alfred's forum these workflows all seem to work as advertised or have been tweaked to do so. Personally I have not tried all of them, hence I'd be interested to hear if any of them does not do the job. Or more importantly: What other OmniFocus workflows you come across.
I also recommend this workflow that allows you to search, open and create notes in Evernote.
I am so looking forward to the fiddling and geekery that Alfred's Workflows will pull me into.
